Working with the Story Order Stripboard, Scene List & One-Liner Script

Dramatify’s story order stripboard with scene list features powerful tools, including statistics, production progress, and smart filters. You can also format a one-liner script for printing or saving as a PDF with just a few clicks.

Where to find the story order stripboard

The Story order stripboard is the first tab under the Stripboard tab in the sidebar menu.

The scene list before the breakdown

Before starting the script breakdown, the story order stripboard and the scene list can appear grey with limited information, especially for screenplays and AV scripts— this is normal. The striped pattern indicates that the scenes lack specific information: Set INT/EXT designations and time of day information.

Below are the stripboard colours for drama screenplays and AV scripts. They are based on standard industry colours, with added shades for dawn, morning, dusk, and evening.

After Breakdown

Once your script is broken down, the scene list displays all relevant information. At the top, under the Show/Hide bar, you’ll find the Calculate stats button. Click it to view production statistics such as production days (after scheduling), total pages, estimated running time, and production time. You can also use the Filter scenes section and re-calculate to view details such as the number of days a specific character appears or scenes at a particular location.

Fast Breakdown Stats

The stats function lets you make a quick initial breakdown by adding basic information and estimated times. Click Calculate stats to instantly see whether your production’s running and production times fit within your goals and budget.

Scene Information

Each scene entry contains detailed data:

• ST and PT show Segment Time (finished length) and Production Time (estimated shooting time).
• The number in the dark grey box is the production day number.
• PGS shows page length; DAY shows the script day.
• The checkbox means the scene is completed.
• The warning sign indicates that the scene is partially shot and still needs completion (set in the call sheet by an admin).

Strip Information

Above the scene list, you can format it into a one-liner script layout with a few clicks.

Filter Scenes

Filtering scenes displays only those meeting your chosen criteria. You can filter by character, location, INT/EXT, set, time of day, script day, or production day. If using episodes, you can view only the scenes from a specific episode. During shooting, you can also filter by progress — to show completed, unfinished, or not-yet-shot scenes. Filters can be combined to quickly find, for example, unfinished night scenes at a certain location or all scenes from a specific production day.

Sorting Scenes

Sorting displays all scenes but in a different order. By default, scenes are shown in script order (by scene number). At the top of the page, you can change sorting to group scenes by set or location.

Group by Set

Lists each set with all the scenes that belong to it.

Group by Location

Lists each location with all the scenes filmed there.

Customise Your Scene List and One-Liner Script

A one-liner script (or short script) is essentially the scene list with adjustable information. Open the Show/Hide accordion to choose what details to display or hide.

Print the Scene List or One-Liner Script

Although Dramatify is designed to reduce paper use, you can easily create a PDF or print version. After designing your list, click Edit in the orange toolbar and select Print.

Depending on your browser, options vary slightly:

Google Chrome

• Background colours and headers/footers are on by default.
• To get a clean, coloured page: deselect Print Headers and Footers.
• To print in black and white: deselect Background graphics.
• Choose a destination printer or save as PDF.

Note: Chrome has a bug with “Character names as IDs.” For correct layout, use Firefox.

Apple Safari

• Background colours and headers/footers are on by default.
• Deselect Print headers and footers for a clean coloured page.
• Deselect Print backgrounds for a black-and-white version.
• Click Print for paper, or PDF (bottom left) to create a PDF.

Note: Safari shares the same “Character names as IDs” issue — use Firefox if needed.

Firefox

• Click Details in the print dialog.
• Background colours are off by default; enable Print Background Colors to include them.
• Adjust headers/footers under Appearance; set to blank for a clean layout.
• Click Print for paper or PDF (bottom left) to create a PDF.
